Grief And ...

The shape grief took when I gave it may hands.

Father's Day is approaching.

You've been present lately — in conversation, in the settling of things that had been waiting. A place found, finally. Gor gor dreamt of you. He said it had been a long while. He joked that you were never one for unnecessary visits. Slow down, you said. That sent me back to the only time I saw you in mine. You looked so young. The kind of young I only know from photographs. In a red rugby shirt, you were waving goodbye.

9 years ago, New York.
I knew that was as close as a proper goodbye I'd ever get.

It stayed with me. It still does.

Earlier this year, I learned a new tool: Weavy AI (now Figma Weave), an AI node-based canvas for creative visual exploration. I wasn't planning to create, but grief had a way of directing the hands. Literal, I suppose. You up in the skies, the ocean below, something we both loved. And the sunset, which was always where I went when I needed to find you. I used the style of Magritte.

There was something in seeing this made tangible. Yes, even digitally, even just on a screen. Next time, perhaps I'll make something physical. For now, this.

What if people could set individual default settings based on their attitude towards privacy? To what extent should images be masked to preserve anonymity (e.g., facial features, the entire face or body)?
